Another 35

Put in 35 miles today - that's 85 for the weekend. Thank you Tylenol Rapid Release gels! Let's see if I can walk tomorrow...

Even the boys got in some pre-season riding (see pic) - and they ride rigid single speeds!

50 on 3/6

First ride on the new Tarmac and did 50 miles! At the beginning of March in Wisconsin? Definitely the earliest ever for me. I am lucky to have done that much mid season last year.

The Tarmac is fast - almost too fast for me. I can barely stay on it as it just wants to go. I rode the first 9 miles solo to meet up with the team, then 30 with the group, and then solo back home. Just didn't want to load up the bike on the Jeep, so just rode to the meeting spot. With the new bike (and maybe a bit of conditioning), I had no problem closing gaps. The true test will be on the first Hub ride. Let pre-season officially begin!

The Weekend: good, bad and ugly

Let's start with Saturday. A quick trip is planned with the boys to see Grandma for her birthday. Got a late start due to the usual "pokiness" ans then the boys really wanted to see a new Imagination Movers show. So I started off in a great mood! The we left Grandma's house late, all the way driving home seeing the sun in the sky and knowing that it would be gone by the time I returned home.
Finally got home, found and adorned myself in all of my winter riding gear. The sun was out, the forecast was for 36, and my cross bike was ready to roll!
The first few miles were cold, realizing I should have grabbed my balaclava. But then warmed up. I planned on a small loop, and from there see how I felt. Around mile 7, I noticed some squishyness in the front tire, and then it went completed flat. Ugg! I pondered, "Do I really want to change a tire in 30 degree weather?" (It never did reach he 36 that they claimed). So, I radioed the team car (aka called the wife to pick me up). But son after, called again to cancel - I was frustrated enough to ride the rim home. And that is what I did.
This is just another installment of recent flats. Last weekend, after riding on the ice at the Gamblers game, I planned to ride East River, but to my surprise, 2 flats on that bike. So, now I have three flats on two bikes - and am just too frustrated to change them. So, I wrote off Saturday. The Bad.

Sunday. We'll call that the Good. In the morning, headed to the camp for some skiing, while Angie and the boys sledded nearby. This is an attempt at a self-shot while skiing but only got the trail:

Afterward, as I was already dressed, I pulled out the townie bike (my old GF 29'er) for some miles. If it was good enough for Durango and Crested Butte, it is good enough for Wisconsin in January. Had a blast! I estimate about 15 miles. I have to pay homage to the old beast with a pic:

And here is my attempt at an artsy self portrait reflection pic thing:

And what is the Ugly? My rapidly diminishing supply of tubes...

One for the good guys!

MADISON — Drivers will have to pay attention to bikers before they open car doors or pay up under a bill approved by the state Legislature.

The bill approved by the Senate and Assembly on Tuesday requires drivers to take "due precaution" to ensure opening their doors will not interfere with traffic or endanger any person or vehicle. Violators could be fined $40.

The plan also eliminates a requirement that riders allow 3 feet between their bike and any vehicle. It is expected to be signed into law by Gov. Jim Doyle.

Rain at the Camp

Clutch was the only one willing to ride with me today, and we had a good time at the camp. Saturday was still a bit sandy, so the rain calmed it down. This was day 3 for me with Baird starting it off on Friday night. Time to rest the saddle sores...
